Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves exposing the body to 100% oxygen at a pressure that is greater than what we normally experience. It is a non-invasive treatment with wide application in clinical medicine.
Principles:
- 100% pure oxygen is delivered at high pressure in a closed chamber. The patient breath normally thro mouth and nose (The gas due to high pressure get compressed in body fluids (Principles of Henry’s law) at lung level.
- O2 reaches every tissue on high concentration thereby enhancing healing capabilities of the injured tissue the healing time is reduced and pain is reduced.
- It is similar to carbon dioxide compressed in a soda bottle.
- It has potent anti inflammatory effect .
- It reduces the healing time and post op recovery time.
- It helps neovascularisation and forms new blood vessels.
